Film fans celebrate Back to the Future Day

What do you think the future will hold? Flying cars? Robots that do your homework? Humans living on Mars?

In 1989, director Robert Zemeckis created a movie about the future he envisioned.

The film, called Back to the Future Part II, was the second in a series of three.

It told the story of Marty McFly and his kooky companion, Doc Brown, as they traveled through time to save Marty and his family from Marty’s nemesis, Biff Tannen.

The far off future they encountered was October 21, 2015. In other words, today.

 

미래에 어떤 일들이 일어날거라고 생각하십니까?

로봇들이 당신의 숙제를 해주고, 화성에서 인간들이 살아가는 시대가 올까요?  

1989년에 로버트 저메키스 감독이 마음속에 그린 미래에 대한 영화를 제작했다.

영화는 백투더퓨처2, 시리즈물중 두번째 작품이다.

그것은 마티 맥플라이와 그의 괴짜 동반자 닥터 브라운의이야기이다. 

그들은 마티와 그의 가족을 마티의 천적 비프 탄넨으로부터 구하기위해 시대 여행을 떠난다.

그들이 우연히 만난 먼 미래는 2015년 10월 21일이었다. 다시말해, 오늘.

A Treasured Time Machine

Set in 1985, the movie begins with Marty and his girlfriend, Jennifer, in front of Marty’s home. All of a sudden, Doc Brown appears and franticly warns Marty that something has gone wrong and they urgently need to travel to the future to fix it. 

The three hop into a trash-powered car, called the DeLorean, and blast off.  “Where we’re going we don’t need roads,” Doc tells Marty as they burst into the sky.

When they arrive in 2015, they find themselves in a futuristic town with hoverboards, 3D movie advertisements, hand-held computers, and people wearing strange clothing with self-lacing shoes.

 

People across the country are celebrating Back to the Future Day with movie screenings and more. In New York City, a special fleet of DeLoreans will give taxi rides.

Technology company Arx Pax will release a new hover board, a technology made famous by the movie.

And the town of Reston, Virginia, will ceremonially change its name to Hill Valley, Marty’s fictional hometown, from October 21-25.

1985년에 시작된 그 영화는 마티와 그의 여자 친구 제니퍼가 마티의 집앞에 있는 것이 첫장면이다.

갑자기, 닥터 브라운이 나타나고 마티에게 무엇인가가 잘못되어 성급히 그것을 고칠 미래로 여행을 떠날필요가 있다고 경고한다.

셋은 들로리언이라 불리는 쓰레기를 연료로한 자동차를 타고 떠난다.

"그들이 하늘로 솟아 오를때 닥터가 마티에게 말한다.  "우리가 가는 곳은 길이 필요없어,"

2015년에 도착했을때, 그들은 후버보드를 타고 다니고 3D 영화 광고를 볼수 있으며 소형 휴대용 컴퓨터가 있고 자동으로 구두끈이 매어지는 신발을 신고 낯선 옷을 걸치고 다니는 사람들을 볼수 있는 미래의 모습을 그린 마을(futuristic town)에 그들 자신이 와있는 것을 발견한다.

 

전국 각지에서 온 사람들이 백투더 퓨처날(2015년 10월21일)을 축하하고 있다.

그날에 영화상영뿐 아니라 더 많은 것들이 준비되어 있다.

뉴욕 시티에서는, 드롤리언 자동차가 택시운행을 한다한다.

기술 회사 Arx Pax는 영화에서 유명해진 첨단 기술이 들어간 후버보드를 새롭게 출시한다 하며,  버지니아주 레스톤 마을이 10월 21-25일을 기점으로 형식적으로 이름을 힐 벨리로 바꿀것이라 한다.

힐 벨리는 마티의 소설속의 고향이다. 

 

Looking To the Future

While the future that Zemeckis imagined isn’t quite like the world we have today, the ambitious director didn’t get it completely wrong. Technology such as drones, video-phones, and hands-free video games were all featured in the film. Back to the Future Part II even predicted that the Chicago Cubs would win the World Series, which could become a reality this year.

Despite all of the excitement surrounding Back to the Future Day, there is one thing we can say for sure we won’t see in the future—another Back to the Future movie. According to Zemeckis, it will never happen.

 

미래를 바라보기

 

저메키스 감독이 상상한 미래는 오늘날 우리가 사는 시대와 매우 흡사하지는 않지만, 야망에 찬 감독이 완전히 잘못 예측하지는 않았다.

드론과 같은 기술, 비디오폰, 그리고 손이 자유로운  비디오게임들을 영화에서 모두 선보였었다.

백투더 퓨처 2는 심지어 시카고 컵스가 월드시리즈에서 이기는 것을 예측했다.

그것은 올해 현실이 되었다.

백투더 퓨처 날을 둘러싼 흥미에도 불구하고 우리가 확실히 알 수 있는 한 가지는 우리는 미래에 또 하나의 백투더퓨처 영화를 보지 못할 것이라는 것이다. 저메키스 감독에 따르면 그것은 결코 일어나지 않을 것이다.(백투더 퓨처는 3부작으로 끝을 맺을 것이다.감독은 후편을 생각지 않고 있다.)
