an adorable snowman, with buck teeth and a carrot for a nose, who longs to sunbathe because no one ever told him that heat melts ice;

a picture-perfect prince who is revealed to be a scheming, opportunistic cad.

 

통제할수 없는 마술의 힘을 가진 아름다운 공주;

아무도 그에게 열기가 얼음을 녹인다고 말해주지 않았기에 햇빛으로 일광욕하기를 원하는 뻐드렁니와 당근코를 가진 사랑스러운 스노우맨;  계획적이고 기회주의적인 자로 드러나는 완벽한 왕자.

 

 

Those are among the unconventional characters in the new Disney 3-D animated movie musical, “Frozen,” very loosely based on the Hans Christian Andersen fairy tale “The Snow Queen.”

They are significant departures from tradition in a film that shakes up the hyper-romantic “princess” formula that has stood Disney in good stead for decades and that has grown stale.

Treacly, kissy-kissy endings are not enough anymore.

 

이 캐릭터들은 한스 크리스찬 앤더슨 동화인 "The Snow Queen" 원작이 대략적으로 반영된 "Frozen,"  3D 애니메이션 뮤지컬의 파격적 캐릭터들이다.

그들은  오랫동안 디즈니사에 크게 도움이 되온 로맨틱 공주 공식을 흔들어 놓는 영화중 그 전통성을 잃지 않는  중요한 출발선이다.

애정표현이 과다한 키스신의 결말은 더 이상 충분치 않다.

 

Nowadays, a princess has to show her mettle and earn her happily-ever-after stripes.

Allegorically, “Frozen” lacks the purity and elemental power of a classic myth like “Beauty and the Beast,”

but at least its storytelling is fairly coherent, and its gleaming dream world of snow and ice is one of the most visually captivating environments to be found in a Disney animated film.

오늘날, 공주는 기개를 보여줘야 하며 능력을 인정받아야 한다. 

비유적으로, "Frozen"은 "Beauty and the Beast," 와 같은 정통적 신화의 순수성과 기본적 힘은 부족하지만

적어도 스토리텔링은 상당히 일관성이 있다. 그리고 눈과 얼음의 환상적 꿈의 세계는 디즈니 애니메이션 영화에서 볼수 있는 가장 시각적으로 마음을 사로잡는 배경이다.

 

There are moments when you may feel that you are inside a giant crystal chandelier frosted with diamonds.

It all takes place in the fictional Scandinavian land of Arendelle, whose king and queen die in a shipwreck, leaving the country in the hands of Elsa (the voice of Idina Menzel), the elder of two daughters.

This blond, high-strung princess has a secret problem.

If she isn’t extremely careful, everything around her freezes when she takes off her protective gloves and waves her hands.

당신은 다이아몬드로 반짝거리는 커다란 크리스탈 샹들리에 속에 있다고 느끼는 순간들이 있다.

아렌델이라는 스칸디나비아 지방을 배경으로, 아렌델 왕국의 왕과 왕비는 난파되어 죽고, 두 딸중 언니인 엘사의 손에 그 나라가 남겨지게 된다.

길게 땋아 내린 금발의 공주는 비밀을 갖고 있다.

만일 그녀가 극도로 주의하지 않는다면, 그녀가 보호장갑을 벗고 그녀의 손을 흔들때 그녀 주위의 모든것이 얼어버린다.

 

Elsa’s best friend is her impulsive redheaded younger sister, Anna (Kristen Bell), whom she nearly freezes to death by accident.

엘사의 가장 친한 친구는 거의 사고로 얼어 죽을 뻔한 충동적인 성격의 빨간 머리 여동생, 안나이다.

 

 

The sisters become estranged when Anna falls in love at first sight with Hans (Santino Fontana), a too-good-to-be-true prince from a neighboring kingdom, and Elsa forbids them to marry.

With one wave of Elsa’s hand, eternal winter descends on Arendelle.

두 자매는 안나가 이웃 왕국의 진실한 왕자 한스와 첫 눈에 사랑에 빠졌을 때 멀어졌다.

그리고 엘사는 그들이 결혼하는 것을 반대한다.

She is so horrified by her destructive gift that she retreats to a remote ice palace atop a mountain.

As Arendelle suffers through the deep freeze, the resourceful Anna, who still loves her sister, is determined to track down Elsa, who she believes can reverse the spell.

그녀는 그녀의 파괴적인 선물에 너무 무서워서 산 꼭대기 외진 아이스 궁전으로 도망간다.

아렌델 왕국이 급속 냉각 상태가 되었을 때 여전히 그녀의 언니를 사랑하는 기지가 풍부한 안나는 저주를 풀(반전시킬) 엘사를 찾기로 마음먹는다.

 

Thus begin Anna’s adventures in mountain climbing.

Along the way, she meets Kristoff (Jonathan Groff), a rugged ice dealer who guides a reindeer-driven sleigh. During their “Wizard of Oz”-like quest, they are joined by Olaf (Josh Gad), that sweet, wisecracking snowman.

“Frozen,” for all its innovations, is not fundamentally revolutionary.

Its animated characters are the same familiar, blank-faced, big-eyed storybook figures.

But they are a little more psychologically complex than their Disney forerunners.

그러나 그들은 디즈니 전 주자들보다는 다소 심리학적으로 복잡미묘하다.

 

 

Its princesses may gaze at a glass ceiling, but most are not ready to shatter it.

Is it significant that Jennifer Lee, who directed “Frozen” with Chris Buck, is billed as the first female director of a Disney animated feature film?

Perhaps. Ms. Lee is credited as the screenwriter of a story that she and Mr. Buck developed with Shane Morris.

공주는 유리 천장을 바라보고 있어도 그것을 산산조각 낼 준비가 되어 있지 않다.

크리스 벅과 함께 "프로즌"을 감독한 제니퍼 리는 디즈니 애니메이션 영화의 첫 여성 감독으로 흥행작을 만들었다.

제니퍼 리는 크리스 벅과 그녀가 쉐인 모리스와 전개했었던 소설의 시나리오 작가로 인정받았다.

 

That screenplay cautiously incorporates some slangy contemporary argot, but its tone is never desperately hip in the manner of the “Shrek” movies.

Most of what fun there is revolves around Olaf, a classic Disney sidekick.

영화대본은 조심스럽게 다소 동시대의 속어를 포함한다. 그러나 그 어조는 "Shrek" 영화와 같이 결코 절대적

응원의 소리는 아니다. 대부분의 흥미가 정통 클래식 들러리인 올라프를 중심으로 돌아간다.

 

 

If “Frozen” still has one foot planted in 19th-century children’s literature, good and evil are not so clear-cut. The title character of the original fairy tale was evil.

Her 21st-century descendant is merely confused and scared.

As always, love is the solution to everything.

When nothing can thaw the icy heart of the frightened Elsa, love does the trick,

but in this case it is sisterly loyalty and devotion rather than romantic attachment. 

 "Frozen"이 여전히  19세기 아동문학에 한 발을 딛고 있어도,  선과 악이 그렇게 분명하지만은 않다. 

오리지널 이솝우화의 주인공은 악했었다.

21세기는  단지 혼란스럽고 무섭다.  항상 사랑이 모든 것의 해결책이다.

어떤것도 겁먹은 엘사의 꽁꽁언 마음을 녹일수 없을 때 사랑이 문제를 해결하는 비결이 된다.

그러나 이러한 경우 사랑은 로맨틱한 애착보다는 자매의 충성과 헌신이다.

 

“Frozen” has eight original songs by the married team of Kristen Anderson-Lopez and Robert Lopez, musical theater veterans whose blend of playful wit and sentimentality here comes closer than any score for a Disney animated film to capturing the charm of the Alan Menken-Howard Ashman collaboration in its glory days.

"Frozen"은 크리스틴 앤더스 로페즈와 뮤지컬 영화의 베테랑인 로버트 로페즈의 환상적 팀에 의해서 8곡의 노래를 갖는다.

로버트 로페즈의  장난기 있는 위트와 감성은 디즈니 애니메이션 영화를 위해서 쓴 어떤 곡보다도 한창 때의 알랜 멘켄-하워드 애쉬맨 공동의 매력을  보는 것 같다.

 

One song, “Fixer Upper,” sung by a bunch of trolls promoting the charms of an imperfect eligible bachelor to a picky princess, is genuinely amusing:

So he’s a bit of a fixer-upper,

So he’s got a few flaws.

Like his peculiar brain-dear.

His thing with the reindeer.

That’s a little outside of nature’s laws!

It can’t be accidental that “Frozen,” with its two female leads, one voiced by the original Elphaba in “Wicked” (Ms. Menzel), has a lot in common with that Broadway juggernaut and seems ready-made for theatrical adaptation.

For this journey, instead of a broomstick, take mittens, snow boots and steaming hot chocolate.

 

 

까다로운 공주에  미혼남의 매력을 고취시키는 트롤즈에 의해 불러진 "Fixer Upper,"은 진정으로 재미있다;

그래서 순록을 끄는 그는 다소 만능 수리공(Fixer Upper)이지만 몇 개의 결함을 가진다.

그것은 다소 자연의 법칙밖 에 있다. 

한 목소리를 내는 두 여성 리더를 가진  "Frozen,"은 브로드웨이 대형버스와 상당히 비슷하며,  영화 각본을 위해 준비된 것처럼 보이는 것은 우연 일수 없다.

이 여행을 위해서 빗자루 대신 장갑을 끼고, 스노우 부츠를 신고 모락 모락 김이나는 핫 초콜릿을 준비하라.
