영화 - Minion Madness

Though he had been working in children’s animation for years, director Pierre Coffin accidentally ended up as the voice actor for all of the minions in Despicable Me, Despicable Me 2, and now, Minions. After helping create the now iconic look of the lovable henchmen for the original Despicable Me, he recorded a sample of what the minions might sound like for the movie’s producer. To his surprise, he was immediately cast in the part—which turned into more than 100 parts over time.

Pierre Coffin’s past work has included animation, directing, and voice acting.

Once the minions became a cultural phenomenon, Coffin and the other creators of the first two Despicable Me movies decided it was time to come up with a backstory for the beloved creatures. They created Minions to explain who and what these mischievous little creatures are and where they come from.

 

피에르 코핀 감독은 몇년에 걸쳐 아이들 애니메이션을 만들면서, 우연히 디스피커블 미,디스피커블 미2, 그리고 최근에는 미니언스에서 미니언스의 목소리 배우로 활약했었다.

현재 오리지널 디스피커블 미를 위해 사랑스런 부하들의 상징적 아이콘을 만드는 것을 도운후, 영화 제작자로서 미니언스가 어떻게 소리 내는지를 샘플을 만들어 기록하기도 했다.

놀랍게도 그는 즉시 한 부분에 캐스팅되어 시간이 지남에따라 100곳 이상에 출연하게 되었다. 일단 미니언들이 문화적 현상이 되어가자, 코핀과 2명의 디스피커블미 영화 창안자들은 주인공들의 배경이야기를 생각해야 할 시간이라고 결정하고 미니언들을 창안해내서 이 짖궂은 작은 미니언들이 누구이고 어디서 왔는지를 설명했다.

 

 

 

Minions is a prequel, set in a time before the minions became known to audiences as Gru’s henchmen. The story mostly takes place in 1968. It follows the three main characters, Kevin, Stuart, and Bob, in their quest for a new master after the minions’ series of well-meaning mistakes leave them leaderless.

“These guys have always been around and they’ve always been searching for an evil master,” Coffin told TFK.

 

미니언스는 그루의 부하들로서 청중들에게 알려지기 전을 배경으로 하고 있는 속편이다. 

이야기는 주로 1968년에 일어난다.

이야기는 뒤이어 미니언스 시리즈에서 선의의 실수로 그들이 지도자를 잃은 후, 새로운 주인을 찾게 되는 케빈, 스튜어트 그리고 밥, 이 세명의 메인 캐릭터로 이어진다.

How did the minions as we know them come to be?

미니언스는 어떻게 되나요?

 

COFFIN:

Originally, the minions were drawn as these big troll-like, muscular thugs. We couldn’t go that way because it was unappealing. So we went to little guys in overalls, like humans, but very small. Then, we pitched the idea that maybe they were subterranean creatures, so that’s where the goggles came from, but we kept the overalls. They became these sort of extraterrestrial frog-like characters. We realized those guys were pretty ugly, too, so the designer came up with their basic pill-shape.

Also, in the initial Despicable Me, there were only a couple of scenes with the minions. When we saw the first animation test, I remember saying, ‘Oh man, these guys are awesome. They’re very expressive and funny. We’ve got to find more places for them in the movie.’ Around then, Steve Carell [who plays Gru] came up with the idea of naming all of them.

 

 본래, 미니언들은 근육있는 폭력배와 같은 거대한 괴물로 그려졌었다. 우리는 그것이 호소력이 없었기때문에 그 길로 가지않았다. 그래서 전반적으로 인간과 같이 작게 그리기로 했다. 그러나 더 작게 그려졌다.

그리고서, 우리는 그들을 지하 생물로 정했고 그래서 그것이 보안경을 쓰게 된 이유이다. 그러나 전반적인것을 지켰다. 그들은 일종의 외계의 개구리와 같은 캐릭터가 되었다. 우리는 이들이 또한 매우 못생겼다고 생각해서 디자이너가 기본적인 알약모양을 고안하게 됬다.

또한, 처음의 디스피커블 미에서 미니언스가 나오는 장면은 두 장면뿐이었다. 우리가 첫 애니메이션 테스트를 봤을때,

'오, 이자들은 대단하다.'라고 말한것을 기억한다. 그들은 매우 인상깊고 재미나다. 우리는영화에서 그들이 등장할 더 많은 장면을 찾고 있다.  그루역을 맡은 스티브 카렐이 미니언들의 이름을 지었다.

COFFIN:

It is heartwarming to see how loved these guys are, but it’s also scary to see them as much as we do. They’re everywhere: on bags, phone cases, schoolbooks… It’s almost overwhelming.

이들이 얼마나 사랑받는지를 보는 것은 참으로 흐뭇하다. 그러나 반면에 그들이 사람처럼 많아지는 것 또한 무섭다. 그들은 어디에나 있다. 백에,핸드폰 케이스 위에, 교과서 위에... 거의 압도적이다.

What language do the minions speak exactly? Is it just gibberish?

미니언들은 정확히 어떤 언어를 쓰나요?  단지 횡설수설처럼 들려요.

 

 

 밥,케빈,그리고 스튜어트의 여행은 남극에서 시작된다.

 

COFFIN:

It’s a mix of Spanish, French, English, Russian, Korean, Japanese, Chinese, Indonesian… The idea was to make these characters as international as possible. The main concept of the minion movie is to show that they served all of the evil masters around the world throughout time, so it would make sense that they have this mishmash of different languages embedded in their own language.

미니언이 쓰는 언어는 스페인어,프랑스어,영어, 러시아어,한국어,일본어,중국어,인도네시아어...  를 합쳐놓은 것이다. 미니언스들을 가능한한 국제적으로 만들고자 했던것 같다.  미니언 영화의 주 컨셉은 그들이 당대 최고의 가장 악한 주인을 섬기는 것을 보여주는 것이다. 그래서 그들은 그들 자신의 언어에 내장되어 있는 이 뒤죽박죽한 남과는 다른 언어를 가지고 있는 것이다.

 

TFK:

Do people often ask you to do the minions’ voice?

사람들은 종종 미니언스의 목소리를 요구하나요?

 

COFFIN:

I can’t really do it offhand. Weirdly enough, I do write out the words that I’m going to say because when you speak this kind of foreign nonsensical language, you have to repeat it over and over so that it feels natural, like a real language. I write it down and basically record myself over and over until the moment that it feels natural, which isn’t the easiest thing to do with words that don’t mean anything. 

나는  즉석에서 잘 하지는 못한다. 

이런 종류의 외국어를 할때 실제 언어처럼 자연스럽게 느껴지기 위해서 계속해서 반복해야 하기때문에, 내가 말할 단어를 써봐야한다.  나는 그것을 적으며 기본적으로 목소리를 녹음한다. 자연스럽게 느껴질때까지 반복해서. 어떤 뜻도 가지고 있지 않은 미니언즈 언어를 다루는 것은 쉬운 일이 아니다.

There are three main characters in Minions. How would you describe them?

미니언스에서 세명의 메인 캐릭터가 있다. 그들을 어떻게 묘사했나요?

 

COFFIN:

The basic concept the basics of a human character divided into three. Kevin is the conscience, the big brother, and the hero in the most general sense. Stuart is the teenager who doesn’t want to do anything. He’s lazy, tired, and very sarcastic. He’s very keen on doing the forbidden things. He has that teen aspect that makes him very charismatic. Bob is the innocent one. He’s the cutest and the heart of the three. He’s very funny.

 

케빈은 양심이다. 나이가 가장 많고 가장 전형적인 영웅이다.

스튜어트는 어떤것도 하기를 원치않는 십대이다. 그는 게으르고, 쉽게 피곤하고 매우 냉소적이다.

그는 금지된 것을 하는것에 매우 열중하고 그를 매우 카리스마적으로 만드는 십대의 측면을 가지고 있다.

밥은 천진 난만하고 가장 귀엽고 셋중 없어서는 안될 존재이다. 그는 매우 웃긴다.

What else can you tell us about the movie? 

영화에 대해서 무엇을 말해줄 수 있나요?

 

COFFIN:

It’s great fun because you know already know these characters as a group, but you don’t know them intimately. The whole movie is about characters, so you get to meet our three main characters and a slew of others who are equally important. While our main characters are out searching for a new master, we see what’s happening to the whole core of the minions. All of these moments are very funny and all of the human characters are awesomely evil. It’s very exciting to introduce new villains, like Scarlet Overkill, who is the world’s first female supervillain.

 

이미 이 캐릭터들을 알기때문에 대단히 재미있다. 그러나 친숙하게 그들을 알지는 못한다. 영화 전체는 캐릭터에 대한 것이고

그래서 당신은 세명의 메인 캐릭터와 똑같이 고르게 중요한 무리들을 만나게 된다. 메인 캐릭터들이 새로운 주인을 찾는동안,  미니언들의 중심부에서 무슨 일이 일어나는 지를 우리는 안다. 이 모든 순간이 재미있고 모든 인간 캐릭터들이 놀랍게도 악하다. 세계의 첫 여성 슈퍼 악당인 스칼렛과 같은 새로운 악당들을 소개하는 것도 매우 흥미진진하다.
